Biography

Pascal Lamy is the former Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), serving two terms from 2005 to 2013. He is President Emeritus of the Jacques Delors Institute, President of the French Committee of the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC), President of the World Committee of Tourism Ethics, former European Commissioner for Trade, and sits on the boards of numerous organizations. 

Beginning in 1981, Mr. Lamy served as advisor to the French Minister of Economy and Finance advisor, Jacques Delors, and was Deputy Head of Cabinet to French Prime Minister, Pierre Mauroy beginning in 1983. From 1985 through 1994, he was Head of Cabinet for Jacques Delors, when he was President of the European Commission.

From 1994 until 1999, he served as Director General at Crédit Lyonnais before serving at the European Commission as Commissioner for Trade until 2004. Mr. Lamy has also published numerous books on Europe including Où va le monde ? (2017), Quand la France s’éveillera  (2014), and The Geneva Consensus (2013)

Since 2019, he has served as chair of the Paris Peace Forum, a new innovative global governance initiative. He regularly lectures on the areas of globalisation, global governance, international trade, international economics, regional integration, as well as European and French issues.

He graduated from HEC Paris, the Institut d’Etudes Politiques, and the Ecole Nationale d’ Administration. He holds the rank of Commander of the French Navy.
